Why use the Web for
teaching and learning?
The
following are some ways in which the Blackboard can support learning:
-
Convenient access to materials
Using Blackboard provides a convenient single point of access for all
web-based course materials for students, including syllabi, readings and
handouts.
-
Post announcements Post important updates and reminders in the announcement area within
Blackboard.
-
Encourage discussion
Student discussion is an important part of learning but is limited by
class time. Discussion tools (the Bulletin Board, Virtual Classroom)
tools extend opportunities for interaction, provide all students with a
chance to contribute, and compel students to compose "mini" essays about
the subject.
-
Provide for student collaboration
Student-to-student collaboration is an important part of learning, but
busy schedules and commuting students create challenges for meeting
face-to-face for group work. The Group Pages allow provide methods that
promote convenient collaboration between and among students.
-
Reach students with diverse learning styles
Some students prefer to learn actively and interactively; others more
introspectively and individually. Providing students with information
and activities in multiple formats can address individual ways students
take in and process information.
-
Student & course evaluation
Throughout the semester, you can use your online course to solicit
feedback from your students on their expectations, their progress, or
their satisfaction with your course using Quizzing and Survey tools.
-
Useful tools for students Blackboard provides an automatic student roster, a grade book that
allows you to keep all grades and students to see only theirs, and a
send e-mail feature.
