 Associate of Science

The Associate of Science degree Program within the Division of Nursing was created to provide an avenue into the nursing profession, develop core skills and competencies, foster a commitment to learning and promote intellectual growth.  The Nursing Program was originated in 1923 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.  It became an associate degree program at Our Lady of the Lake College in 1990. 

Graduates attain the Associate of Science Degree in Nursing and are prepared to write the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).  

CURRICULUM 

The Associate Degree in Nursing curriculum consists of 71 – 72 credit hours.  The clinical sequence is designed to be completed in four semesters, during which the student is enrolled full-time. Click here for curriculum details

ADMISSION 

Applicants to the ASN Program must meet the following minimum admission criteria: 

  1. Be accepted for full admission status to OLOL College

  2. Be in good academic standing at OLOL College

  3. Have completed 6 credit hours at OLOL College

  4. Have completed the following foundation courses with a grade of C or better:  Academic Seminar, English Composition I, College Algebra, Human Anatomy and Physiology I, Introduction to Psychology, and Introduction to Chemistry.

  5. Have earned a grade point average of 2.75 or higher on arts and sciences courses in the nursing curriculum

  6. Have earned a grade of C or better in the arts and sciences courses in the nursing curriculum

Note: Students applying to the 2 year traditional ASN program must take the Test of Essentials Academic Skills (TEAS) by the application deadline. "For more information regarding the TEAS exam, please contact the School of Nursing by calling 225-768-1750 or 1751.

ENROLLMENT 

A class of approximately 100 students is accepted twice a year. A class of approximately 100 students is accepted twice a year. Applications and all supporting documents for the Associate of Science Degree in Nursing are due on or before August 15 for the spring semester or January 15 for the fall semester. Our Lady of the Lake College welcomes applications from all qualified individuals.  All transcripts are reviewed on an individual basis, according to College policy, in order to determine eligibility and placement in the program.  Equal educational opportunities are offered to all who meet entrance requirements, without regard to race, gender, ethnicity, creed, marital status or age. 

FINANCIAL AID 

The Our Lady of the Lake College Student Financial Aid Office is available to all applicants to discuss eligibility for financial assistance.  Please call (225) 768-1714 to schedule an appointment. 

Applicants are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.  Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical center also offers tuition reimbursement to qualifying employees.
