  • The student in the nurse anesthesia program, Ryan Zeller received the 2017 Maria Roach, CRNA Scholarship.  The AANA Foundation states "These students underwent a rigorous evaluation process and were chosen from more than 1000 highly qualified applications. 54 scholarships were awarded totaling $115,000."  Congratulations, Ryan! Thank you for representing Franciscan Missionaries of our Lady University.

Phi Beta Lambda is one of the nation’s largest business related career and leadership organizations in the country.  OLOL College has had an active National PBL chapter since January, 2017. We recently attended the state conference and our students shined well above other universities and colleges in Louisiana.  We are proud of the hard work of our students, as well as, their ability to exemplify the Franciscan core values in their PBL efforts.

Louisiana Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) State Leadership Conference Competitive Event Awards for Our Lady of the Lake College students are noted below. PBL State Leadership Conference was held on March 24-25, 2017, at Tulane University.  We are proud of all of our PBL students!

  • Students from the Clinical Lab Sciences Association, Zane Peterson, Taylor Gideon, Skylar White, and Sneha Sapkota during the Habitat for Humanity build on Saturday 10/8/2016.  We are Franciscan, Franciscan  Missionaries of our Lady University, formerly Our Lady of the Lake College, living our mission, students paying it back to the Baton Rouge community. 
  • This weekend, as part of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program’s commitment to promoting clinical excellence and cost effective continuing education for our graduates, Christine Cook, PT, MS and the Physical Therapist Assisting Program hosted a two day Kinesio Taping® course for clinicians. It was taught by Jimmy Welsh, PT,OCS, CKIT of Baton Rouge, a Board Certified Orthopaedic Specialist of many years’ experience. Two former grads of the PTA program, Walter Latapie, PTA and Lori Brown, PTA participated in the event along with other practitioners from as far away as Texas. Another two day course, culminating in certification, is scheduled for October.

  • Physician Assistant students, Mason Kent, Brandi Runnels, Alexis Rook, Jennifer Prendergast, and Priya Patel as well as their Program Director, Sarah Deyo, MMS, PA-C, completed the wellness assessment before campers left for a week at Camp Challenge.  The mission of Camp Challenge is to enrich the lives of young hematology/oncology patients including, but not limited to, cancer and sickle cell disorders, their siblings and survivors by creating a week-long camping experience at no cost. Our purpose is to provide a recreational environment that is memorable, fun, empowering, safe and medically sound to help them cope with the challenges of childhood diseases and prepare them for life after illness.
  • Radiation Technology students Katherine Stewart and Alexis Esneault won first place for their poster exhibit entitled "Radiation in the Sky as we Fly" at the 59Th annual conference of the Louisiana Society of Radiologic Technologists(LSRT) .  The poster specifically addressed radiation exposure received during a typical flight and that flight attendants and pilots are considered radiation workers.  Of note, a typical commercial flight from New York to L.A. will expose you to 2-5 millirem (mrem); two to five thousand times more radiation than received when passing through security screening. 
  •  Four students enrolled in the Health Service Administration marketing course (HSER 4330) developed a marketing plan as part of their service learning experience with Travail 6:33, Inc.  The students included, from left to right: Jherrica Parker, Amy Kell, Travail's Erika Anaya, Rhonda Altazin, Founder of Travail 6:33, Brandi Maze, and Ashley Mathis.
  • Brittany Schmidt, BSN, RN, Doctor of Nursing Practice-Nurse Anesthesia Student received a $1500 scholarship from the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists Foundation.  Ms. Schmidt was one of the 53 recipients selected from over 1000 highly qualified applicants.   • Franciscan Servant Leadership Award Finalist 

Jeffery Green, a current OLOL College senior in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, has been named a top five finalist for the Franciscan Mission Service’s San Damiano Servant Leadership Award.  This national award recognizes a college junior or senior who exemplifies a commitment to the values of Catholic Social Teaching, to a personal and communal faith life, to the aid of marginalized or impoverished populations, and to leadership that encourages others to serve.
Jeffery is a student leader dedicated to civic engagement on all fronts.  He is the current President of the Student Nurses Association and has served as a Student Ambassador for the College.  He has worked to raise funds for children’s healthcare priorities in recognition of his daughter who faced heart-health issues during her early life.  Additionally, he helped organize a student and faculty mission trip to serve in Haiti that focused on the needs of children attending the Respire Haiti School.  You can hear a out Jeff's journey here: https://youtu.be/ywHvFAuOuvI

  •  Audrey Gauthe, BSN, RN, MSN-Nurse Anesthesia Student received a $1500 scholarship from the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists Foundation.  Ms. Gauthe was one of the 62 recipients selected from over 1200 highly qualified applicants. Ms. Gauthe is the only MSN-Nurse Anesthesia student to receive this award from an accredited MSN-Nurse Anesthesia program in the state of Louisiana.

  • We are honored to announce that Our Lady of the Lake College's pre-licensure BSN Program's students Rachel Crum and Ethan Perrodin have been elected to the 2015-2016 Louisiana Association of Student Nurses' Board of Directors! They are very honored to advocate for and serve FOR the student nurses of Louisiana and will be responsible for hosting an annual conference that awards scholarships and grants to student nurses! Healthcare is ever changing and these two are ready to lookout for new issues in our community and bring them to state and national attention! Congrats guys!
